Q. WHAT TYPE OF MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED WITH A PROPANE TANK?A. Keep your propane tank area free of all storage and combustible materials, including grass and brush. Schedule annual or periodic inspections to ensure your tank is performing properly. If your storage vessel is 25 years or older, allow one of our professionals to get your tank back up to date; we recertify. Painting should be done periodically to avoid rust. Please contact us for more information
-
Q. HOW DO I READ THE GAUGE ON MY TANK?A. Look for the gauge under the hood on the top of your propane tank. Once lifted, you should find a dial with numbers ranging from 5 to 95, which are indicative of your tank’s propane percentage. You should periodically check your gauge level and establish regular delivery services to ensure you don’t ever run out of propane.
-
Q. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I SMELL GAS?A. Extinguish all open flames, do not flick any light switches or use the telephone, evacuate all occupants from the house immediately, turn off the gas supply at the propane tank and leave the area. Go to a neighbor’s house or use your cell phone to report the possible leak to 911 or the fire department, and don’t return to the area until a qualified professional has determined if it’s safe to return. Report the leak to Heritage Propane Ltd at 1-877-641-3232 or 403-641-3232. Do not enter back into the area until it has been deemed safe by a qualified professional. You should also have a licensed, qualified professional check your propane gas system before you attempt to use any of your propane appliances.

However, the 420-pound cylinder tank can typically go right up against the building, with minimum requirements for building openings and intakes (windows, doors, exhausts, appliances).
